The Internet regulation or governance field spans a wide array of players known as Stakeholders. The system of management of the Internet and its governance is aptly named Multistakeholderism. However, I have been reading up and researching on the influence that the Civil Society as a stakeholder has had on the development of the internet.
Do they have any influence at all? Studies show that private companies and national government wield more power than other stakeholders, majorly the CSOs/NGOs, with the private companies or research and development companies pulling the strings on national government.
Additionally, I am making an inquiry on the connection between the status granted to CSO stakeholders at Fora/treaty making conference and its effect on their effective participation during such conference. Example of such status are Observer Status during High level event at some of these conferences where participation of CSOs are restricted to listening only while government representative take the floor.
